Have you heard about "School for All" and why it is necessary in Africa?
According to UNICEF global databases, 2008, and UNESCO Institute for Statistics Data Centre, 2008 46 million primary-school-age children are out of school in sub-Sahara Africa.
Today Paabinaa Meriga Peace Initiative (PAMEPI), a non governmental organization operating in Ghana, West Africa has envisioned a future African continent without illiteracy. To realize this dream the organization has come out with a proposal entitled "school for All" which pinpoints educational challenges and suggestions of how those issues can be overcome through community participation and mobilization of modest resources.
ISSUE: Observing classes under trees, classrooms without roofing sheets, broken chairs, lack of amenities and facilities serve as barrier to educational for all. We at PAMEPI believe that children in areas with these problems can have access to education if they are privileged to have basic educational materials like books, pens, pencils and uniform.
One of the fundamental cores of our proposal is the setting up of a collection centre to raise old educational materials that are reusable to reach out to the aforementioned children so that they can have access to education.
SUCCESS STORY: Our concept of mobilizing modest resource within the beneficiary community has disproved the African long held notion that using new educational materials is the only way to acquire knowledge.
Today 330 pupils in Saakuba primary are learning with the old educational materials and benefiting from programs that were instituted in the school through the implementation of the "School for All" pilot project.
NB: it has to be noted that this project was implemented on a pilot base so as to see if it will be effective and efficient to be replicated in other communities in Ghana and African sub-Region.
To learn more about the effectiveness and efficiency of how the project is making an impact in Ghana and how it will be replicated in other communities in Africa, follow our footsteps as we update you with more information.
Envisioning a future African continent without illiteracy by 2050 is achievable with your participation and contribution. You can join us or add your voice to our call by signing up to be a member or recommend a friend. For us to expand this project we need more volunteers and donations in kind or cash. We are also looking for educational experts, organizations, individuals etc who are interested in partnering our efforts.
