'SUN' (Swasthya Unnayan for Nation ) is a registered NGO , situated at Vill- Khaspur , P.O - Jhilli , Murshidabad.
SUN has organised a school for destitute and drop out children in a remote Villege of Murshidabad, West Bengal. The area of communication is very bad. The rivers Daraka and Brahmani flood this area every year. There is no communication with the Dist Murshidabad.
The famous Sachar committee Report published by the Govt. of India in 2006 reveals this report that some districts - Murshidabad, Birdhum, South -24 Parganas are more backward in education and health than any other backward district of our country. So, we are some devoted people who have organized an NGO ( SUN ). We are taking the initiative of some small school accommodation in the three districts. We have limited resource. We want to develop a good school building for education and a library. With help our area can be develop .
EDUCATIONAL STATUS
There is no High School and only one or two Madhyamik schools in this area. The people of our area mostly illiterate and minority . Women are mostly illiterate. Most of the students do not get any option for continuing education, so that most students of class VIII to XII are a facing dropout problem. The organization ‘SUN’ is taking an initiative of a study centre for dropout students. They are also trying to develop this area through various educational , cultural , health, sanitation and agricultural programmes.
COMMUNICATION
This is a highly flood affected area . Every year Daroka ,and Bahamans are over flooded. Due to poor communication system crossing the river takes about 1-30 hrs . We have no communication with our district town of Murshidabad . We have no metaled road to connect the subdivision or block town . Our Sadar Hospitol is about 60 k.m. away from Jhilli Gram Panchaet . Our Rural Hospital Khargram is about 30 k.m. away from this village. The nearest Subdivision Hospital is at Rampurhat of Birbhum (distance from 25 k.m).
OCCUPATIONAL STATUS :
Most of the people of our area are engaged with cultivation , They have no work for about six months in a year. They have no option for alternate jobs. Women have grave problems in manageing their families. The situation also hampers children’s’ education We have many social problems such as child labour, child marriage, fake marriage, increasing dowry and dowry death. Trafficking and domestic violence are also increasing. There is no handicraft cell. There is no bank to encourage economic development. Some area have self-help groups, but they have no function regarding economic development.
