Spring of hope centre is an initiative that was started to address educational, health and developmental issues in the marginalized rural areas in Kenya.
The project was started especially to address the educational needs of the children who were of school going age but had not gone to school. Even with the government policy of free primary education there are still many children who cannot afford to go to school due to lack of basic necessities
We are catering for 120 children in primary who are in need .Though we are now pressed due to the fact that the need is increasing daily, we are getting children alsmost daily some just come after they have heard of our programe from the ones that we have and we have no choice but to help them .Recently a boy aged nine came and after interrogation the boy said 'I have no one to take care of me, I live like an animal'. On further inquiry we found that he had been abandoned by his parents when young due to hardships.
We are also sponsoring a number of boys and girls in secondary education who have shown outstanding performance but have no means to continue with the secondary education. We currently sponsor three (3) boys and (3) girls, three of whom are in form four now (2girls and one boy)
We are also empowering the youths who have no means to gain any training especially those who have finished primary education and girls who had fallen pregnant while still in school hence being stigmatised. We offer them Tailoring courses and computer courses and we have already seen the fruits by the girls having hope again and being able to sustain themselves. We give them follow up to make sure rthat they are continuing well.
We are in the process of starting to offer high income generating agri-business like tomato green house of which we have a plan to reach every youth in our group so as to make them self sufficient and the community be empowered as a whole. This will be under the supervision of the group.
Our main source of income has been from our mushroom and fish projects, We have fish pond projects and mushroom growing projects. But now the need is growing bigger.
The need
- We need ten (10) computers new or used and ten (10) Sewing machines new or used. These will be used to train the boys and girls.
- We are also in need of sponsors to help educate those that are in secondary school especially now that they are to register for the national exams (2 girls and 1 boy). The registration fee is $50 per child. Fees are $173 per child the whole year.
- We are also in need of reading books and writing books, pens, pencils, blankets and sheets for those that board
- We are also in urgent need of building three classes in order to accommodate the rising number of the children and for one room to be used for training the girls
- We are also in need of spawn (mushroom seeds) for our mushroom projects and two green houses
- We are also in need of journals and materials that advise on tomato green houses and mushroom growing and any other beneficial venture so that we can help these children
Lastly we are also in need of experts who can volunteer to teach on such projects. Our goal is to empower the youths and the whole community.
We hope that, as you read this, you will be touched to help where you can and may God bless you as you help us to help his children.
