TWO SUCCESSFUL YEARS OF FREE QUALITY EDUCATION IN A VILLAGE

“What greater or better gift can we offer the republic than to teach our youth?”
(Cicero)

This project needs computer laboratory
basic science laboratory
school uniform (we don't have any school uniform, because poor parents are unable to buy that)
school play ground
school library
training for our faculty members
basic heath unit in our school
We want also to plan a tour of
historical  places of Pakistan.

In district Umerkot (Sindh, Pakistan) our lovely and attractive village Haji Abdur Rahman Samoon, near Dhoronaro is situated in the flung and the marginalized area at the gateway to one of the biggest deserts of world THAR where it is very strange to think about girls’ education and it is also a great challenge for female teachers to teach in rural atmosphere.

Our village is consisted of about 300 hundred houses where the different communities are living such as Bheel, khumbhar, Kolhi, Mangrio, Meghwar, Nohari, Samoon, Samejo, Sand etc. The village is surrounded by agricultural land at the south and the west, that is irrigated by Nara canal. At the north side there are huge mounds of sands (BHITS) of thar desert.

In the atmosphere where challenges in education are faced like the war of empty hands with huge well-equipped troops. In that situation Apa Anita Ghulam Ali rose like a beam of hope and a great mercy of God for the villagers.

In the beginning of 2009 our villagers planned to open a school in the leadership of Sir Abdur Rahman Samoon , most senior teacher, a learned and pious personality of our area. It was news of great pleasure for villagers when their school was opened under PPRS after passing through different surveys.

The school was named “ SHAHEED SOOREH BADSHAH PUBLIC PRIVATE SCHOOL” in a monthly meeting of the community.

Initially school was started in two rooms of village OTAQUE with enrolment of 75 students. But suddenly it increased to 152 students. At that time community members were very happy to see a dynamic change in the behavior of their children. According to 2010-11 enrolment there were 202 students (70 girls and 132 boys), who were getting free quality education. But it has been increasing day by day. Initially there were three teachers (2 female and 1 male) but now two more teachers were appointed. Moreover construction of two rooms has started. The credit of all these positive activities goes to community, team of S.E.F field office, regional office SEF and SEF head office.

Arrangement of teachers’ training by SEF in district headquarters Umerkot was a great step to boost up confidence of teachers by teaching them the best method of teachings.

In the short period of two years school administration arranged two Independence Day (14th August) programs in which students participated in different activities to show their love for their beloved homeland Pakistan, a picnic of a nearby beautiful lake “KILANKAR” was also made (where students enjoyed a lot to see beautiful scenery of the lake among the mounds of sands, they also enjoyed boating there.  “KILANKAR” lake gives its attractive and soothing look in rainy days when its surrounding mounds are covered with greenery).

In addition to it two “Parents’ day” programs were also arranged to announce annual results. The students participated enthusiastically in both programs in front of their parents to show their talent. Last glorious Parents’ day was celebrated at the end of academic year 2010-11 on May 14, 2011 , @  school. Parents, social workers, journalists, teachers, villagers and officials of Sindh Education Foundation( Mr Rustam Ali Samejo, Sinior  E.O (S.E.F) Hyderabad region, Mr Imam Bux Areesar E.O (S.E.F) Mirpurkhas and Mr Bhgwandas, Mr Zubair Mangrio, Mr Ali Sher Samejo from field office (S.E.F) Umerkot enjoyed to see innocent and cute students of pure natural and open atmosphere on the stage. Position holders were awarded prizes. This Program was dedicated to great humanitarian late Haji Khan Muhammad Mangrio.

After second parents’ day program many parents came from different villages to get admission of their children. Many students left the expensive private schools of Dhoronaro town to get quality and free education. Even there came 70 new students for admission in a week after the successful event of parents’ day program. Some students came from distant villages (4 to 5 kilometers away from school).

Most of the students of this school belong to very poor families of farmers, laborers and teachers etc. They were either sitting free at their homes or working in fields before the establishment of this school. Therefore, this school is a great favor of God for villagers.

“The children should be placed not according to their father’s qualities but to the        qualities of their own minds” (Plato)
