Rwerere Standard High School Project

This project needs: Financial assistance to increase access to quality and affordable education in a rural community of south western Uganda.

In 2009, an education project of a community school in rural Uganda that would enable children from poor families to access an affordable quality education was started. The education project, Rwerere Standard High School, now in its second year, is providing education to over 100 children, and the first batch of form four (4) candidates are this year sitting for their national examinations. The children pay Uganda Shillings 65,000 (approximately USD 24) in tuition fees per term as a contribution to run the school project. Parents who cannot pay in monetary terms have the option of paying in-kind such as providing food, labour or building materials, firewood and any other locally available options that the school would otherwise buy. The project will be sustained through building scale efficiencies, as student numbers grow. This way, we shall be able to enable many more children to access an affordable and quality education and; have a guaranteed bright future for themselves, their families and their communities.

Families who live in rural Uganda face serious challenges, including poverty, crime, unemployment, and low educational attainment. Children who grow up in impoverished communities in rural Uganda find it harder to access a quality affordable education. Yet this is in many cases, the only opportunity to break through the social-economic barriers that poverty presents children from poor families.
