II. ISSUE ADDRESSED :
| Name of the proposal project | : | Pre-Primary Schools in 5 Tribal Villages of Varikuntapadu Mandal (Access Education to the un reached tribal children) |
BACKGROUND INFORMATION :
The proposed projects is to be located in Varikuntapadu Mandal. It falls under the jurisdiction of Nellore Dist., of A.P. Varikuntapadu is one of the Mandals of Nellore District. Varikuntapadu Mandal. The target communities of this project are scheduled caste, scheduled tribes and the backward classes of these societies. The education in the area is such that, no pre-primary schools are located in the villages (Rural areas). The attendance in primary schools is also very poor because of the lack of competence of the teachers on one hand and lack of competence and motivation at the level of parents about education. In the villages, usually the teachers do not hail from the same village, where they are supposed to work. However, people do not realize this education as the most important tune and component for any sort of development more than this the crucial problem in the field of education is that lack of school going tendency among the children. If we look at this situation critically, every body in the society is responsible for this situation. As this is a reality even if a child goes to the primary school he / she cannot sustain themselves in the school, because they could not complete with the children at the main stream. Hence, the drop out in the villages even before completing their 5th standard.
ANALYSIS OF ACTIVITIES :
To organize the poor for their basic rights the society has been striving to motivate and educate these people in our area. Since then with repeated discussions and meetings held with the people in the villages. We started social awareness campaign on an experimental basis in the villages, the course of act on has given us enormous experience and of course consumed lot of our time. The periodical discussions among the village leaders and committee leaders and also with our activities, have helped us to adopt various new strategies and plan of action every year in order to suit the minds of the people. The current position is that in each and every village, we could motivate people, establish their own grass-root organisations like man and youth associations through which people have come to a stage from where they could bargain the legal elite and land lords for their works, seek justice from the Government against any justice or social suppressions in the society and mobiles Government economic Programme earmarked for the welfare of the poor.
Our Association with the people and our experience show us that our target community could achieve a social base and economical standard to some extent i.e., atleast 60% however we have to struggle a lot to bring about total change “Development” in the villages. Perhaps, we, as social activists, need not have to be more in concentration with these villages since we have developed village level elders like youth and woman Associations, village elders committee etc., who would take the responsibilities of unkeeping the process which we have set in motion in 1985.
Because of our continuous Association with these villages and also because of our constant touch with the issues of the people there has been a great impact on the people of the neighboring villages. It appears that the methodology through which we have been working is acceptable and applicable to people. This may be the reason for making people of the neighboring villages to come to us and solicit our guidance in putting them in the same process of “Organizing People”.
