One Hope Children Care was started to create hope to children with special needs and to create awareness to disorders such as cerebral palsy. It was established after a visit to one of the villages in Nyabondo, Kenya, by myself and a group of social sciences students. We were awed at one case study and the ignorance associated with this in the village, plus other abandoned orphaned children due to HIV and the AIDS scourge.
Currently there are five people working on the project aimed at sensitizing families of kids with cerebral palsy, finding hope through sourcing of donors, well wishers and helping medical and social science students with researches and voluntary work.
One case is extremely urgent as we identified a child of six years suffering from cerebral palsy. He needs to be placed somewhere he can get access to rehabilitation facilities as he is getting of age. As we still do not have boarding facilities, we arrange for the kids to stay with foster mothers. They are placed in private and government schools where they require reading materials, clothing, bedding, health and cash for upkeep.
