Nutrition Project

Every year, due to poverty and the high unaffordable prices of certified seeds people in the region avoid growing different food crops (including vegetables) or continue to use low quality seeds where available> This leads to low quality and low quantity production and poor diet causing widespread malnourishment among children and families.

Towards this project several US based Charities have offered to donate packets of assorted vegetable seeds which we would like to distribute free of charge to various beneficiaries – groups and individuals – to enable them produce enough food(vegetables and fruits) to feed the needy children, themselves and sell any extra to cater for the children and improve their standards of living.

It is clear that when we give out a packet of quality certified vegetable seeds, we give more than just food or food security. With your help we give a poor household a chance for a better and self reliant future through earnings from sale of extra quality vegetables produced. The project will also assist in establishment of a sustainable seed-bank to assist more other farmers.

Practically proper diet is important in sustaining the health of pupils and maintaining a high level of concentration in class; observation and experience have shown that locally children perform poorly when adopting an inappropriate diet or facing malnutrition.

So, we are also seeking assistance to meet the costs of distributing of donated seeds and empower beneficiaries through basic training on new farming techniques.

Funding is required for distribution of quality certified vegetable seeds to 10,000 Households in Embu, Meru and Tharaka-Nithi Counties
