Konnectc Kenya

This project needs: School fees support for 2011 - $5000
Soap making materials.

This project provides school fees, social work and homework support for those in the Mukumu/Shinyalu district of Western Kenya, as well as support for the Blessed Centre Early Childhood Education Centre.

Many of the children with one or both parents deceased or absent live with illiterate and impoverished grandmothers, or with guardians of little skill and education.  There is a large amount of illicit village brew drinking.  It is nearly impossible to find work without at least primary education.  Konnectc Kenya not only pays the school fees for some, but follows up with visits and support during the term.  Our network includes religious Brothers and Sisters qualified in Social work, teachers and other community members.  For those families who have their children in school but are still struggling, we encourage the parents to develop entrepreneurial and other skills.  This helps to alleviate jealousy and competitiveness towards any assistance given to less fortunate children and provides an "everyone gets something if we pull together" atmosphere.

We have an urgent need for school fees for 2011 $5000. There is a longer term plan in place to develop a business to cater for these, but the emergency is now.

We also need soap making materials.

There are a growing number of projects based in Kenya posted on the website. So, we've added a Kenya country/regional discussion group accessible under the GROUPS tab and we're asking the Kenya project organisers to join it. Please make contact with each other and use the GROUP forum to share thoughts and ideas.

We'll then also be able to send circular emails from the Foundation just to Kenya Group members.
