Dear Sir / Madam,
Greetings from Integrated Rural Development Society (IRDS), India.
I represent IRDS, a secular voluntary organisation which is working for the total development of marginalised communities in remote villages. Our vision is faith in human dignity, social justice and equal social status to all, irrespective of caste and gender.
I bring the following few sentences for your kind consideration...
The millennium is changed. But the misery of the poor remains the same. Struggle for existence and survival of the fittest became the order of the day in these days of growing competition and globalisation. Almost in all the 3rd world countries poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, unhygienic conditions and economic exploitation still exist in different forms. The worst victim is woman and the girl-child.
Hence, our development activities focus upon the specific issues and needs of women, girl-children and HIV + persons among sex workers. We strive to achieve long lasting improvements in the quality of life of these target groups and organise them at all levels to lead life happily and peacefully without fear and oppression.
The bright future of the poor Girl-Child many a times opens the door for the trade with human flesh for various reasons. Child marriages mainly in villages are an obstacle for their growth and development in every aspect. Dropout rate is more among the poor girls. Having this in mind, we have adopted 25 orphan, semi-orphan and poor girl-children (including the children whose parents died due to HIV--AIDS) from most vulnerable communities and started a Home recently at Mandavalli, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, India.
We need your helping hands for providing a good supporting home, nutritious food, medical care, moral protection and access to decent schooling for these lovely girl-children. This gives our beloved children not only a ray of hope in their life but also encouragement to study equally with others. Hence, we request you to kindly consider our appeal and help us in this endeavour. We shall send any information that is needed by you in connection with our programmes.
Our organisation is permitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to receive funds from abroad.
We heartily wish you all a very happy NEW YEAR.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
Ms. G. Sailaja
