DIVIN - Democratic Republic of the Congo

DIVIN stands for "Integrated Development for the Vision of Nations". I formed "DIVIN" in June 2006 as a response to the most recent war (1998 - 2003) that has disrupted our country and torn families apart. The result has been absolute devastation - towns destroyed, thousands of deaths, women more vulnerable than ever - forced into sex and many mutilated by the vicious attacks of men, and also leaving numerous children abandoned - with orphans wondering about the streets of Kinshasa, DRC.

I formed DIVIN to provide for the reintegration of these great women, children and orphans back into society to begin living more normal lives and put this horrendous time period behind them, and to be productive individuals in their community and become sociable and trusting human beings once again.

DIVIN supports these individuals through coaching, promoting cultural activities to the youth & improving their conditions by implementing basic education centers - to offer literacy and vocational training. Specifically we focus on the girls, as they are the most vulnerable children - coming to our doorstep with disabilities and coming from the poorest backgrounds. They are always excluded from education, so now we make them our top priority for education.

DIVIN has set one major overarching goal in the area of Education. That is, "Education For All". We are very excited about it, because we know this is achievable! We see it in developed nations, so we know it is not hard to create the atmosphere to make this happen, it just takes the dedication and consistent effort. So we very much welcome others to join us in this bold mission and become partners in one of the most crucial areas needed in our town, country and in many others globally.

The results of a good education are ongoing, as I am sure you know. It's essential for human healthy development, it has a direct impact on the health of communities, it also helps improve democratic participation - to fight against discrimination and improve growth in this area. But more importantly, beyond these effects, education is a fundamental human right! Like any human right, it must be defended and extended. Education gives everyone the power to make choices - it is the most powerful tool to empowerment!

DIVIN is also devoted to the fight against poverty by creating employment opportunities & providing microfinance. We also participate in agroforestry - we live off our land (grow what we eat) and we also sell the products we produce to others. We have goals in the area of healthcare to establish a health center. DIVIN, with the help of our future partners, would have sufficient facilities in the Democratic Republic of Congo to rehabilitate victims of sex trafficking safely. DIVIN's smaller mission is to protect the rights of the environment.
