Cradle of Hope for Relief and Development is a registered Non Governmental Organization established at the Buduburam Refugee Settlement, Central Region, Ghana. CHRAD is committed to capacity Building of the disadvantaged in society with focus on refugees. In a bid a bid to improve our services, we are calling for the service of International Volunteer to serve in the following areas:
FULL TIME VOLUNTEERING Volunteer shall be required to provide teaching service to school children from kindergarten through High School in all subject areas.
Cradle of Hope for Relief and Development (CHRAD) is in partnership with institutions at the settlement on which behalf its recruit volunteers to offer them services. At the Buduburam Refugee Settlement, there are more than 20 schools serving an estimated 11,000 refugees from Liberia. All the schools are very much willing to accept volunteers. This means that we are expected to recruit as much as 50 volunteers to meet demand for volunteers' service by these institutions.
School days run from Monday through Friday from 8:oo am to 2:30 pm. The schedule is however flexible for volunteers such that they will be needed at post (except otherwise decided by themselves) only at their schedule time. Volunteer shall be expected to spend two (2) to five (5) hours daily at post. Arrangements are made for part-time volunteers to visit at least once weekly.
The following detailed teaching opportunities are constantly available through out the year:
PRE SCHOOL (KINDERGARTEN: This involves singing, playing and taking general care of children between the ages of 6 months - 5 years. One does not need much experience to work them, interest in children is more important. The volunteer must be between the age 18 and above and must be fluent in English Language.
PRIMARY SCHOOL (ELEMENTARY): Primary (Elementary) school children are normally between the ages of 6-12 years. Teaching them involve normal classroom work (such as Arithmetic, poem recitation, reading, singing etc) in line with the Ghana Education Service Syllabus. Volunteer's interest in handling disadvantaged children is paramount here. Must have attain the age 18 and above with at least a Diploma. Undergraduate currently on study program are encourage to apply.
JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL: Junior High school children are teenagers mostly between the ages of 13 - 16 years. Specific subjects such as Mathematics, Social Studies, General Science, and Technical Skills are taught using the Ghana Education Service syllabus. Students are prepared for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) of the West African Examination Council's (WAEC). Successful candidates gain admission into Senior High School. Volunteers are required to posses Diploma or a Bachelor Degree to teach any of the subjects above.
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: Senior High Schools students are teenagers normally between the ages of 15- 19 years. Recommended for trained teachers or people mastered in a particular field of study. Subject such as Economics, Mathematics, Literature, Business Management, English Language, French, Accounting etc.
COUNSELING (Trauma, Career, Peer Counseling etc) and MENTORING Currently, the Director is involved in providing one to one psychosocial counseling aimed at deepening the awareness of their culture as well as initiate drives to promote and uphold self-reliant, self-determination, self-esteem and sense among school children and the youth. This position will be ideal for volunteer with background in humanities such as sociology, psychology, public sector management or those with charisma and gifted in public speaking. Potential volunteer must have linguistic and interpersonal skills. This position also ideal Research student into post war dilemma.
MOTIVATION / INSPIRATIONAL SPEECH
Refugee School children constantly need counseling to keep them on track with their lessons and how they can grow up to become useful citizens in their community.
We are recruiting volunteer to provide such services to the refugee community. The following methods will be applied in providing the services:
1. Visiting classrooms and speaking to students; discussing their challenges with them and helping them overcome such psycho-social challenges through counseling.
2. Organizing workshops for the student and delivering motivational / inspiration speech.
3. Student to visit at the counseling center for an interaction at a scheduled time.
OFFICE DUTIES
Volunteer wil be required to work closely with the Director in developing proposals, sourcing funding assistance, developing [programs, writing reports, working on website contents etc.
