Bikalpa Gyan Tatha Bikas Kendra

Bikalpa Gyan Tatha Bikas Kendra (Alternative Learning and Development Centre, Nepal) has been offering its programmes for the last eight years.

It has run six eighteen-month programmes for 150 young women and girls from the Dhading, Rasuwa, Lalitpur, Morang, Sindhu Palchowk, Kavre, Ilam, Jhapa, Taplejung, Dhankuta and Sunsari districts of Nepal.

We aim to help young indigenous women and girls from remote places who are in difficult circumstances and have missed the opportunity for education. The programme is for girls who are above 13 and below 17 years old, from remote areas, economically poor, speak mother tongue only and are committed and highly motivated to work in their villages.

Bikalpa is also running a children's village of girls at the moment in Kathmandu and Morang Sanischare. The village is run with the philosophy of "Small is beautiful". We believe in "Learning by Doing" trying to "Learn and Earn and Earn and Learn". We focus on "What we have and what we know". The children get education in mother tonque and start to learn various traditional skills without limiting other possible skills they are interested in. The girls start by sharing and teaching other girls what they know. Therefore, they start by teaching. They mostly learn from Five Living Books(Learning Centres) created for them. //
