We are a not-for-profit NGO named Association de Jeunes Determines et Unis pour un Idéal (AJEDUI) situated in sub Sahara of West Africa (Benin) near the federal republic of Nigeria. We work in areas of Education, Health, Reduction of Poverty, Protection of Environment, Human Rights, Illiteracy and Governance.
Benin is one of the less advanced or developing countries. So, the high rate of poverty (59% since 2005) does not permit our community to have numerous schools for children and young people. In spite of our government effort to build schools for our community, there still are numerous schools to build or repair to satisfy our needs. It is the reason why the rate of illiteracy is very high (more than 70%) in our country. To contribute to the improvement of this situation, our organization has elaborated a program of building and repairs for schools. This program will be realised over five (05) years. This will permit us to advance the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals for education.
Title of the project: Building of primary schools in favour of children coming from destitute parents.
Summary: We need Forty one thousand six hundred and twenty six POUNDS STERLING (£41,626) to build four (04) classrooms with latrines.
Why this building project is necessary?
- The feeble rate of educated children
- Deficiency of schools
- Numerous schools are built with precarious material (bamboo, straw) especially in villages or rural zones.
- Schools fees are very expensive in private primary school. So, children coming from destitute parents cannot have access to these schools.
How our organization has identified the necessity of the project
In the village where the project will be realized children go on foot to schools situated at several kilometres (15 to 10) from their homes. So, they are very tired on their arrival in the classroom. It is necessary to establish a school closer to the village to reduce their suffering. The provision of a school has been a frequent request made to our organisation by people living in the village.
The conception and approval of the project
The organization responsible for the project and members of the village community have participated jointly in its conception as well as in its elaboration. Our board members and the village authorities have participated in the project’s approval.
Activities for the project’s realisation
- Building of four (04) classrooms with direction and latrines.
- Recruitment of school staff
- Welcome children and distribution of school supplies to them.
Outcomes for the project
- A modern school, built with definitive material which will be attractive and healthy place for the blooming of children.
- All children of school age are registered in the school and benefit from the project’s advantages
- The place of the project’s implementation as well as its neighbourhood will be clean thank to sanitation work completed during the school’s building.
