Vocational computer training for orphans and vulnerable youths
Abexinah computer center is seeking a grant to provide help to orphans, school dropouts and the disabled [handicapped].
Kasese district is one of the districts in Uganda that are facing increasing number of death as AIDS, death as a result of the ADF war in 1996, increased school dropouts as many children are born in poverty stricken families.
These death’s and poverty stricken families have left behind the youths/ teenagers who need to be helped to improve their standards of living and end problems like theft, premature marriages and other crimes associated.
Putting that aside, Kasese district in Uganda has natural resources but lags behind in technological advancements.
It has many companies like Kilembe mines, Kasese Cobalt Company, Hima cement which are insourcing all its information technology staff from other districts.
The objective of this vocational training project is to impart practical knowledge and skills in the target group so as to improve their standard of living.
Funding in the amount of U.S*. Dollars 6745 is* requested to implement this program in the purchase of equipments to help in implementation of the project.
The nature of the vocational training requires computers to be bought in big numbers which will be used as teaching / learning tools. With this “we request for help in buying these computers”.
Abexinah computer center is in Kasese district few miles from the democratic republic of Congo. In the first phase of implementation, we plan to recruit 100 orphans, handicapped and school dropouts who are the direct beneficiaries of the project.
Vocational training project will provide orphans, handicapped and school dropouts access to computer lesions in packages of [word ,excel ,PowerPoint, publisher], computer repair and maintenance , software installation and upgrade, computer graphics, website design and development.
The goal of this vocational training project is to equip the target group [orphans, handicapped and school drop outs with knowledge and skills in the area of information technology (computing)].
The budget includes funds for buying computers for the project.
Computer practical tests will be given on a weekly basis to trainees to determine the trainees understanding level of the computer studies.
Impact of the project
We believe that if these orphans are taught in this way and information technology skills and knowledge are imparted in them they can be employed by some of this company’s and in the end earn a living. These people will also be encouraged to start their own businesses like printaries, graphic firms , website and computer maintenance firms which have a direct and a positive impact on their lives.
